Group A encompassed normal pH (7.15) and a base excess (BE) greater than -12 mmol/L; the abnormal pH group consisted of pH values less than 7.15 with a base excess (BE) equal to or less than -12 mmol/L.
The 14338 deliveries yielded UCGS rates categorized as follows: A-0.03% (43 instances); B-0.007% (10 instances); C-0.011% (17 instances); and D-0.003% (4 instances). Among the neonates with normal umbilical cord gas studies (UCGS), a composite adverse neonatal outcome (CANO) occurred in 178 cases (12%). Remarkably, only one neonate with abnormal UCGS experienced a CANO, which was 26% of this group.
